The Lagos State Government, via the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has started monitoring schools to ensure compliance with educational standards as students returned for the new academic session this week.
OEQA spokesperson Adepeju Adeyemi announced in a statement Online on Wednesday that the inspections, which began on Monday, cover schools below the tertiary level across the state.
Led by OEQA Coordinating Director Remi Abdul, the monitoring team visited several schools, including Dolphin Senior High School in Lagos Island, where they were welcomed by Principal/Director Comfort Agunlejika.
Abdul stated that the exercise aims to confirm adherence to the approved resumption date outlined in the 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar. According to the calendar, basic and secondary schools in Lagos resumed on September 15, 2025, for the First Term of the 2025/2026 session. The term is divided into two halves: September 15 to October 31, 2025 (34 days), and November 10 to December 19, 2025 (34 days), with an Open Day and Mid-Term Break in between.
The monitoring team is also checking if school administrators conducted pre-resumption meetings and if essential records, such as lesson notes, diaries, and attendance registers, are ready for the new session.
Addressing SSS 3 students, Abdul emphasized the importance of academic focus, noting that their performance this term will impact their transition to higher education. He urged them to study diligently, stay disciplined, avoid truancy, and prepare early for their WASSCE examinations. Additionally, he encouraged teachers to remain committed to delivering quality education.
