The event, which formally inducts new lawyers into the Nigerian Bar, attracted eminent jurists, senior advocates, and legal luminaries from across the country.

Wike, himself a lawyer and member of the Body of Benchers, walked alongside colleagues in the traditional procession that precedes the swearing-in of the “new wigs.” His wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of the Court of Appeal, was also in attendance.

The occasion was particularly significant for the family, as their eldest son, Jordan Nyesom-Wike, was among those called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court.

The Call to Bar ceremony, organised by the Body of Benchers, is a key fixture in Nigeria’s legal calendar. The professional body oversees the admission of law graduates into the legal profession and regulates their call to the Bar.

The current Chairman of the Body of Benchers is Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, who took over from Hon. Justice Mary Peter Odili in March 2024.
