The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has lauded the transformative reforms introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) under Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, highlighting their positive impact on the aviation industry and Nigeria’s business environment.
AON President Allen Onyema praised Adeniyi’s pro-business approach, noting a shift from past conflicts to collaboration. “Dealing with Customs used to be like climbing a mountain blindly,” Onyema said, recalling frequent disputes. “Since CGC Adeniyi took office, the Service listens, engages, and supports businesses.” He credited the reforms with boosting operations, creating jobs, and increasing government revenue.
In a historic first, the AON Board of Trustees visited Adeniyi to express gratitude and urge continued reforms. AON pledged ongoing partnership with NCS to advance Nigeria’s aviation sector and economy. Onyema also commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing capable leaders like Adeniyi.
Welcoming the delegation, Adeniyi acknowledged AON’s strategic contributions to Nigeria’s economy beyond financial investment. He highlighted NCS initiatives like the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, advanced ruling for importers, and aviation desks at airports, seaports, and courier hubs, all aimed at easing business operations. He clarified that the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) is a regional obligation, not a unilateral Nigerian charge.
The visit underscores a strengthened partnership between AON and NCS, fostering optimism for Nigeria’s aviation and economic growth.
