President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian military to protect the country’s economic interests from the disruptive actions of terrorists and insurgents, stressing their critical role in preventing economic collapse.
Speaking on Saturday at the passing-out parade for 472 cadets of the 72 Regular Course (Army, Navy, Air Force), Short Service Course, and Branch Commission Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said insurgents aim to derail development by creating counter-states. “Your job is to defend our nation’s economy and values, counter the enemies’ violence and propaganda, and strengthen the Armed Forces,” he said, urging the military to stay true to Nigeria’s founding vision despite security challenges.
Tinubu praised the NDA for using technology to improve training and research, making operations more effective. He congratulated the new officers—218 for the Army, 135 for the Navy, and 119 for the Air Force, plus Short Service cadets—for their commissioning, encouraging them to show courage in defending Nigeria. He also commended the academy for updating its training methods to meet modern demands.
Six cadets were honored for outstanding performance in academics, military training, and extracurricular activities. The ceremony highlighted Tinubu’s focus on security and economic stability as key pillars of his administration.
