The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained three individuals suspected of supplying illicit drugs to terrorists and bandits in Borno and Yobe states. According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the arrests were made during stop-and-search operations, with drugs concealed in a Mercedes Benz SUV and a woman’s travel bag.
In Borno, NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, arrested 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim on September 27 along Damaturu Road. A search of his Mercedes Benz GLK (registration: JRE 987 AE) uncovered 39,380 Tramadol 225mg and Exol-5 pills hidden in the engine compartment. On the same day in Yobe, Halima Adamu was intercepted on the Damaturu-Maiduguri road with 1.4kg of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis strain, concealed in her bag.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of Habiba Muhammad at her residence on Baga Road, Maiduguri, linked to the same consignment.
Babafemi stated that these operations are part of NDLEA’s intensified efforts to disrupt drug supply chains fueling terrorism and banditry in the North-East.
In separate operations, NDLEA arrested Aliyu Sani, 27, and Yahaya Tata, 26, on September 27 along Zaria-Kano road in Kano, recovering 30,030 Tramadol pills. In Bayelsa, on September 22, operatives apprehended Friday Elebechi, 35, Tobin Godgift, 30, and Aya Clement, 30, at Swali jetty, seizing 12kg of skunk and 50 Diana AAA cartridges. Additionally, on September 25, 45-year-old ex-convict Femi Owoeye (aka Do Good) was arrested in Ikere Ekiti with 32kg of skunk and 10.5g of Tramadol. Owoeye had previously served three years for a similar drug trafficking offense in 2016.
