Team Drogba Set to Shine as E1 Lagos GP Kicks Off This Weekend

The UIM E1 World Championship, presented by PIF, makes its historic African debut in Lagos this weekend, October 4-5, for the E1 Lagos GP presented by FirstBank. With Team Brady leading Team Rafa by just one point (135 to 134) in the Championship standings, the penultimate round promises intense competition to determine the 2025 ‘Champions of the Water.’ Team Aoki (125 points) and Team Blue Rising (114 points) remain close contenders, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.

Following high-stakes races in Monaco and a dramatic crash between Team Rafa and Team Brazil that halted qualifying, the championship battle is at its peak. African football icon Didier Drogba, co-owner of Team Drogba Global Africa with Gabrielle Lemaire, is expected to attend, bringing star power to this landmark event in E1’s global expansion.

Set against the stunning Lagos Lagoon, the E1 Lagos GP will showcase the revolutionary E1 RaceBirds electric powerboats that glide above the water at high speeds—delivering electrifying action for thousands of spectators. The event not only highlights the excitement of electric racing but also underscores Lagos’ growing status as a hub for international sports and its commitment to green innovation and the blue economy.

Rodi Basso, E1’s founder and CEO, said: “Bringing E1 to Africa is a milestone in our mission to expand electric racing globally. Having Didier Drogba and Gabrielle Lemaire, who embody E1’s values, at the heart of this event makes it even more special.”
