The 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran (Jandor), has confirmed he will contest the governorship election again in 2027, while casting doubt on the political readiness of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Jandor acknowledged that Seyi is constitutionally qualified to contest but stressed that the president’s son lacks the political experience he has gained.
“All the names you mentioned—Seyi, former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and Tokunbo Abiru—are qualified to contest for Lagos governor, including Seyi. But aside from Ambode, none of them have gone through the rigours of an actual governorship race like I have,” Jandor said.
He added: “I come with that experience, having contested an election without backing, going through the entire process alone, and understanding the complexities of campaigning in Lagos.”
Jandor, who left the PDP in March 2023 to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), finished third in last year’s election with 62,449 votes. The contest was won by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC, who polled 762,134 votes, while Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour secured 312,329 votes.
On whether he would step down for Seyi Tinubu if the APC presents him as its candidate in 2027, Jandor said party unity comes first. “At the end of the day, whoever the party selects, we will all support that candidate. But for my part, I have declared for 2027, and I am running,” he said.
Speculation has been rife about Seyi Tinubu’s interest in the Lagos governorship race, but he has yet to officially announce his intention.
