Antananarivo is witnessing historic protests as Gen Z youth demand water and electricity, often cut for more than 12 hours daily. At least 22 people have died and over 100 injured. President Andry Rajoelina dissolved his government after days of unrest, but many see it as too little, too late.
This movement echoes similar Gen Z-led uprisings in Nepal and Morocco, proving young people are now a global “third force” beyond politics. In developing nations, where Gen Z makes up to 80% of the population, frustration over poverty and failing infrastructure sparks revolt.
Governments must proactively engage youth, ensure basic services, and open dialogue. Silence and neglect only fuel protests; inclusion and transparency can prevent chaos.
