After their leased jet had to make an emergency return to Angola on Saturday due to an unforeseen mid-air fright, the Super Eagles have already reached Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 8:05 a.m., the Super Eagles squad safely landed at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.
Shortly after taking off from Luanda, Angola, where it had stopped to refuel, the Nigerian delegation’s aircraft experienced a damaged windscreen while traveling from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo.
The pilot reportedly remained calm throughout the incident and expertly maneuvered the plane back to Luanda Airport, guaranteeing the safety of all passengers. There were no reported injuries.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), emergency logistics were promptly initiated, and a second plane was sent from Lagos to transport the team to Uyo.
However, the incident delayed the team’s planned arrival ahead of their pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter against Benin Republic, which might determine Nigeria’s chances of qualifying.
Now that their safe landing has been verified, attention returns to football as the Super Eagles try to get as many points as possible in what many have called a “must-win” match.
With 14 points, the Super Eagles are in third place in Group C, behind South Africa and Benin Republic, who are in first and second place, respectively.
