The Kano State PDP Chairman, Yusif Kibiya, welcomed the recent defections of Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating they bring “relief” to the PDP. Kibiya argued that the defections, anticipated by the party, hold no electoral significance and reflect the APC’s strategy to weaken opposition through inducements or threats.

He emphasized that electoral power lies with the people, not governors, framing the 2027 election as “Nigeria versus the government.” Kibiya expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to field credible candidates and win public support, dismissing concerns about the party’s prospects. He noted that defectors historically struggle outside the PDP and predicted an imminent “explosion” within the APC due to internal challenges.

Kibiya underscored the PDP’s resilience, citing past betrayals and failed rival parties, and urged focus on the electorate to secure victory in future elections.
