The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a nationwide directive cautioning officers against the improper use of detachable name tags, badges, and rank insignias, warning that violators will face disciplinary action.
The warning was contained in a circular signed by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIGPOL), PROTECT, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, dated October 14, 2025.

According to the circular, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) expressed displeasure over reports that some officers, particularly those in the inspectorate and rank-and-file categories, have been using detachable identification materials in violation of official dress codes.
“Be informed that Ingenpol is miffed with the attitude of some members of inspectors, rank and file, who are in the habit of using detachable name tags, badges, and ranks,” the directive stated.
“Henceforth, any officer caught engaging in such practices shall be sanctioned, and the head of formation of the erring officer will also be held responsible.”
All commands and formations across the country have been ordered to educate personnel on the directive, ensure strict compliance, and report back confirming adherence.
The circular emphasized that the message should be treated with utmost urgency, underscoring the Force’s renewed commitment to discipline, accountability, and uniform integrity among officers.
The directive was dispatched to over 30 police commands, including Kano, Lagos, Yola, Makurdi, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Sokoto, Osogbo, Bauchi, Enugu, and other key formations nationwide.
