The Imo State Police Command has detained three officers—Inspector Obinna Peter, Corporal Amaechi Augustine, and Corporal Ejikeme Victor—for their alleged ties to the Vikings confraternity after a viral video showed them wearing cult insignia.

The officers, set to face an orderly room trial at the police headquarters on Monday, were arrested following an investigation ordered by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, who condemned their conduct as unprofessional.

The video, shared by anti-cultism platform NaijaConfra, sparked public outrage, accusing the officers of disgracing the Nigeria Police Force by openly displaying Vikings symbols, linked to a cult responsible for numerous deaths. The platform questioned the officers’ ability to arrest fellow cult members. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye stated that the behavior violated the force’s discipline, ethics, and values, and the trial’s outcome will be made public.
The Imo State Government, through Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachukwu, said it awaits the investigation’s results before taking further action, commending the police for initiating the probe.
