Breaking: Ex-Governor Investigated for Allegedly Financing Coup Plot Against Tinubu

A former Southern governor is under investigation for allegedly financing a coup plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reportedly planned for October 25. Sixteen military officers, including a Brigadier-General from Niger State and a Colonel from Nasarawa State, linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), are in custody for their suspected involvement. The Colonel is reportedly from an influential family, with his father a traditional ruler and his brother a former governor, causing distress among family members.

Investigations, coordinated by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) with senior officers from the Armed Forces, are ongoing to determine the extent of the former governor’s involvement, a former oil and gas operative, and potential links with other influential politicians from both northern and southern Nigeria.

Additional officers have been detained for questioning over connections to the alleged plot. The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its loyalty to President Tinubu, emphasizing the permanence of democracy in Nigeria, which transitioned to civilian rule in 1999 after 29 years of military governance.
