The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Patrick Abba Moro, has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic loss of his son and grandson within a span of just two days.
According to reports, Senator Moro’s son, Victor, who had recently returned to Nigeria after completing his studies in Turkey, died in a fatal motor accident along the Mararaba axis of Nasarawa State. The tragic incident occurred barely 24 hours after the burial of Senator Moro’s grandson.
Victor, who was preparing to begin his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, was said to have been on a personal trip from the family home when the accident took place. His untimely death has sent shockwaves across political circles and the wider Benue community.
Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, expressed deep sorrow over the devastating loss. In a condolence message shared on his social media platforms on Monday, Saraki described the double tragedy as a pain no family should ever have to endure.
“To lose a grandson and then, only days later, a son, is a pain no family should ever have to bear,” Saraki wrote. “This double bereavement is a deeply difficult moment for the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Abba Moro, his wife, and their family. Toyin and I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences, and pray that the Almighty will strengthen them, comfort them, and surround them with His peace through this very dark season.”
Similarly, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, also expressed grief and disbelief over the tragedy. In a statement issued by his media aide, Terver Akase, Ortom described the incident as a heartbreaking and incomprehensible loss.
“The death of Victor Moro, a young man full of promise who had just completed his studies in Turkey and returned home to serve his country, only to have his life abruptly cut short in a fatal motor accident, is especially devastating,” Ortom said.
He noted that the tragedy has not only brought sorrow to the Moro family but also to their friends, associates, and the entire Benue community. “This is indeed a moment of deep pain and sorrow for my brother and friend, Senator Abba Moro. No words are enough to console a father in this kind of situation. My heart goes out to him and the entire family. I pray that God, in His infinite mercy, will comfort them and grant the souls of the departed eternal rest,” he added.
Senator Abba Moro, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hails from Benue State and previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The shocking double tragedy has left colleagues, friends, and political associates of the senator mourning alongside his family, as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss.
