2027: Kwankwaso Open to Alliance with Obi, Predicts Tough Election

Former Kano governor and NNPP leader, Musa Kwankwaso, says he is ready to work with Peter Obi and other opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections to challenge the ruling APC.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso said the election “will be a tough one,” noting that Nigerians are now more politically aware and eager for change. While open to an opposition coalition, he did not rule out working with the APC, stressing that any alliance must benefit the NNPP and align with its pro-people values.

“If you are asking us to join APC, you must tell us what NNPP will gain,” he said, adding that his party has structures and governorship candidates nationwide.

Kwankwaso dismissed reports linking him to a possible vice-presidential role under President Tinubu but maintained that NNPP could collaborate with “competent leaders with integrity,” including Obi and others.

He criticised the Tinubu administration for failing to tackle insecurity, lamenting the worsening violence in northern states. “The common people are suffering while the elite live comfortably in Abuja,” he said.

Kwankwaso predicted that the 2027 polls would be Nigeria’s most competitive yet, as “people are now informed, involved, and determined to secure a better future.”
