The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, met in Lagos on October 24, 2025, to strengthen unity, preserve Yoruba culture, and promote mutual respect across Yorubaland. Hosted by Sir Dr. Kessington Adebutu at Eko Hotel Signature Building during his birthday celebration, the meeting marked a historic step toward Yoruba solidarity.

The monarchs announced the formation of the Joint Council for Yoruba Unity, a platform to foster peace, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic development. Their joint communiqué described the event as a pivotal moment in Yoruba history, emphasizing harmony and ancestral values of brotherhood. Attended by Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, and cultural custodians, the meeting encouraged reconciliation and cooperation among monarchs for the people’s benefit.

The Ooni and Alaafin exchanged royal blessings and prayed for peace and prosperity in Yorubaland and beyond. Adebutu hailed the renewed bond as a milestone for unity and development. The communiqué, signed by both monarchs and witnessed by Adebutu, was issued by Aare Dr. Kola Oyefeso, Secretary of the Communiqué Drafting Committee.
