No abduction of 15 A’Ibom students, says CP

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed media reports claiming that gunmen raided a students’ lodge in Ikot Ekpene and abducted 15 students.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, described the report as false and misleading, clarifying that the incident was actually a lawful operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the police, officers responded to a distress call around 4:30 a.m. on October 24, 2025, following reports of an armed robbery in Ikot Uboh Village. On arrival, it was discovered that the supposed “attack” was an EFCC operation, during which some persons were arrested, not abducted.

The police urged journalists to verify information before publication to avoid spreading panic. Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammad Azare commended his officers for their professionalism and called on all security agencies to coordinate with the police before conducting operations in the state.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Akwa Ibom,” the statement concluded.
