INEC Confirms Anambra Ready for 2025 Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Anambra State fully prepared for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, following a comprehensive readiness assessment conducted by a high-level delegation from its headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation, led by National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Rhoda Gumus, spent a week inspecting logistics, security arrangements, and operational readiness across the state.

According to a bulletin issued on Monday by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, the delegation arrived in Awka on October 21 and met with Anambra’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, and the State Management Team to evaluate preparations.

Key members of the delegation included National Commissioners Sam Olumekun, Kenneth Ukeagu, and Baba Bila. They emphasized accountability, professionalism, and transparency in handling all electoral materials and processes.

The team inspected local government areas such as Dunukofia and Oyi, where non-sensitive materials were being deployed, and also monitored the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Gumus urged voters to remain patient, assuring that every eligible citizen would be captured.

During meetings with Electoral Officers from all 21 LGAs, discussions focused on logistics, early activation of Registration Area Centres, and secure movement of personnel and materials.

INEC also engaged transport unions responsible for election-day movements, warning against any deviation from agreed logistics plans, while assuring prompt payment and demanding full compliance and accountability.

A high-level security meeting was held with agencies including the Police, DSS, NSCDC, and the military, all of which pledged commitment to ensuring peaceful and credible polls.

The delegation concluded with the monitoring of a Mock Accreditation Exercise in Anambra East, where the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) performed effectively. Commissioner Ukeagu announced that INEC was “99 per cent ready” for the election.

Expressing confidence, Rhoda Gumus stated, “Anambra is ready, INEC is ready, and the people are ready. We look forward to delivering an election that will reflect the true will of the electorate.”
