Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has donated another ₦50 million to the Super Falcons, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to sports development and women’s empowerment through football.
The governor made the announcement while hosting the Nigerian women’s national team at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ahead of their second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Benin Republic.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Governor Abiodun said the donation was in recognition of the team’s remarkable performances and to encourage them to achieve even greater success.

“We were delighted to receive the Super Falcons ahead of their WAFCON 2026 qualifier. In recognition of their inspiring performances and to further motivate them, we announced a support package of ₦50 million,” he stated.
The governor noted that the team’s return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta highlights Ogun State’s growing status as a key player in Nigeria’s sports sector.
He also revealed ongoing plans to transform the stadium into a world-class sports and tourism destination, complete with a five-star hotel, cinema, shopping complex, and other modern facilities.

Commending the Falcons for winning their 10th WAFCON title in Morocco, Abiodun praised them as symbols of excellence and role models for young women across Africa.
“What they represent goes beyond football—they embody leadership, teamwork, and discipline. Through their example, millions of young women now know that excellence knows no gender,” he said.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his government’s continuous support for the team, saying their achievements will continue to inspire the next generation of leaders and athletes.

This is the second financial gesture from the governor to the team in four months. In June, he awarded ₦20 million to the Super Falcons following their 2–0 win against Cameroon in a friendly match held in Abeokuta. The visiting Cameroonian team also received ₦10 million.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons will play the Benin Republic in the return leg of their WAFCON qualifier at the MKO Abiola Stadium, holding a 2–0 advantage from the first leg courtesy of goals by Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.
Head coach Justin Madugu said the team remains focused and determined to secure their qualification.
“We know the Beninoise will be tough, but we are prepared to give our best to qualify for the 2026 WAFCON and maintain our momentum toward the 2027 World Cup in Brazil,” he stated.
