The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and abuse, recording 45,853 arrests and seizing over 8.5 million kilograms of various narcotics within the first two and a half years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed this on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, during an award ceremony held to honour 220 officers for exceptional service and to decorate 15 senior officers with new ranks.

Marwa, in his address, commended the dedication and sacrifice of the agency’s operatives in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that their efforts have significantly strengthened the NDLEA’s core missions of drug demand reduction and supply suppression.
“In the last 30 months, we have made 45,853 arrests, secured 9,263 convictions, seized over 8.5 million kilograms of assorted drugs, and counselled or rehabilitated 26,613 drug users. Additionally, 9,848 War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns have been held nationwide,” Marwa said.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating the drug menace, describing it as an existential threat to Nigeria’s social and economic stability.
“Drug abuse, trafficking, and the crimes they fuel pose a direct danger to our nation’s future. Every kilogram intercepted and every cartel dismantled weakens the networks that threaten our youth, economy, and security,” he added.

Marwa emphasized the importance of maintaining high morale among personnel through the agency’s reward and recognition system, which promotes virtues such as integrity, loyalty, sacrifice, and courage.
He also extended appreciation to the agency’s local and international partners, including UNODC, INL, the UK Border Force, and the governments of France and Germany, for their continued support.
Acknowledging the backing of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Marwa expressed optimism that sustained collaboration would help realize NDLEA’s vision of a drug-free Nigeria.
“We thank President Tinubu, the Senate and House Committees on Drugs, and our partners for their steadfast support. Together, we are building a nation where drugs no longer endanger lives or communities,” he concluded.
