Cleric killed as bandits abduct 20 worshippers in Kaduna

Bandits have killed Reverend Yahaya Kambasiya of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria (HEKAN) and kidnapped at least 20 worshippers in Kaduna State. The attack took place early Tuesday, October 28, 2025, when heavily armed men stormed the Farin Dutse community, shooting indiscriminately and abducting several residents, including church members.

According to HEKAN President Amos Kiri, the pastor and others hid in a nearby farm during the assault. When the gunfire ceased, Kambasiya emerged, believing the attackers had left, but was fatally shot.

Kiri noted that this is not the first time HEKAN members have been targeted. In December 2024, the same area suffered similar attacks, including the abduction of 50 people and the death of one victim in captivity.

Kaduna remains one of Nigeria’s hardest-hit states by bandit violence, with recent incidents claiming the lives of civilians and security personnel alike.
