FHA Launches Renewed Hope Housing Project in Uyo

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has officially commenced construction of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of the Federal Government’s effort to provide affordable homes for Nigerians.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Governor Umo Eno and attended by Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director of the FHA. The governor was praised for his unwavering support, having provided land for the project free of charge and promising further assistance to ensure its success.

Ojo, speaking through the FHA’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Chigelu, highlighted that Akwa Ibom was chosen as the launch site to honor the state’s collaboration with the Authority.

> “On May 2, 2024, we sought the buy-in of Akwa Ibom State for our Renewed Hope Housing agenda. The reception and encouragement we received here were unmatched anywhere else,” Ojo said.

He emphasised that the FHA is committed to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s vision of providing livable, affordable housing. Plans are already underway for similar projects in Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa states, alongside completion of ongoing projects inherited from previous administrations.

Ojo added that the Akwa Ibom project will not only provide quality homes but also create jobs and stimulate economic activity in the state.

Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the FHA for selecting Akwa Ibom as the launch site, noting that such federal initiatives align with his administration’s focus on addressing the housing deficit and fostering development.

> “Our civil servants and residents are at the heart of our priorities. Projects like the Aviation City, Judicial City, Legislative, and Executive estates demonstrate our commitment to housing,” the governor said.

He also assured that the state’s security framework will protect the housing site and urged the FHA to ensure timely completion of the project.

The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme is a flagship programme of the federal government, implemented through the FHA and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. It targets low- and middle-income earners across Nigeria, with a focus on affordability, quality, and livability. The initiative also aims to create jobs, support local building industries, and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable cities and communities.

The partnership between the federal and state governments, including provision of land and infrastructure support, is central to the programme’s success, with the FHA overseeing construction and delivery of homes.

This project marks a significant milestone for the FHA, establishing its presence in Akwa Ibom for the first time in over 50 years.Headline news
