The Anambra State Police Command has announced a complete restriction on vehicular movement in and out of the state on Saturday, the day of the governorship election.

According to a statement from the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the restriction will be in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across all roads in the state, including interstate highways. The measure covers all motorised transport, such as private cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, tricycles, and shuttle buses.
The police said the restriction is part of security arrangements agreed upon by state security commanders to prevent political thugs and criminal elements from disrupting the electoral process. Residents and travellers were advised to plan alternative routes during the restricted hours.
Only persons on essential duties—including accredited INEC officials, election observers, journalists, medical personnel, and emergency responders—will be exempt, provided they carry valid identification and clearance documents.

> “Residents are urged to comply with this security arrangement to safeguard lives and property, ensure a peaceful election, and allow voters to exercise their franchise freely,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned against all forms of electoral malpractice. In a release on its official X handle, the commission prohibited actions such as:
Canvassing for votes or persuading voters for or against any candidate.
Possession of offensive weapons or intimidating attire.

Displaying party symbols, notices, or photographs at polling units.
Use of vehicles with party colors or symbols.
INEC also instructed voters to leave polling areas immediately after voting and avoid loitering, destruction of election materials, or causing disturbances.
These measures aim to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible election in Anambra State.
