BREAKING: PDP suspends governorship candidate 2 days after election in Anambra

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has suspended its governorship candidate in the just-concluded election, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, over alleged misconduct and poor performance at the polls.

The decision was made during a state executive committee meeting held at the party’s secretariat, where members accused Ezenwafor of abandoning his campaign shortly after securing the ticket.

State Chairman, Dr. Chidi Chidebe, told journalists that the candidate became unreachable during the campaign period and later claimed to have been attacked in Abuja — a report the party said was unverified.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the PDP leadership described Ezenwafor’s conduct as “uncooperative and destructive” to the party’s collective interest, noting that he secured only one vote in his own ward, Nnobi Ward 3, in Idemili South Local Government Area.

“The committee finds his actions embarrassing and damaging to the reputation of the party,” the communiqué read. “Mr. Jude Ezenwafor is hereby suspended from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for one month with immediate effect.”

The statement added that his case has been referred to the State Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and recommendations, while the National Working Committee (NWC) has been advised not to accord him or his associates any further recognition.

The party also called on the police to probe Ezenwafor’s claims of being shot, stating that no medical or security report supported his story.

The PDP described the election as one of its worst outings in Anambra’s history and blamed the candidate’s “lack of commitment and credibility” for the poor showing.
