The National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have confirmed that the party’s national convention will go ahead on 15 and 16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that the convention has not been postponed and called on party members and the public to ignore misleading claims, which he alleged are being spread by individuals recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt the event.
“The NCOC and the party will continue to work tirelessly to ensure a successful national convention in Ibadan as scheduled,” Ologunagba said. He also welcomed all delegates, party leaders, officials, and supporters who have already started arriving in Ibadan for the convention.
A faction of the PDP, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, had claimed that the convention was cancelled following two Federal High Court judgments. On 31 October and later on 5 November, courts ordered that the convention be halted, with directives preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognizing the event.
However, an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, on 4 November, ruled that the party could proceed with the convention, creating a legal conflict over its status.
The PDP remains determined to hold the convention as planned despite the ongoing legal challenges.
