Osimhen, Ajibade make CAF Awards final shortlist

Nigeria has secured multiple spots in the final shortlist for the 2025 CAF Awards, with Victor Osimhen and Rasheedat Ajibade leading the country’s nominees. CAF released the final lists on Sunday ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled for November 19 in Rabat, Morocco.

Osimhen, currently starring for Galatasaray, is a top-three finalist for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi. His nomination continues Nigeria’s strong presence in the category after Ademola Lookman won in 2024.

In the women’s category, Ajibade—who helped the Super Falcons win their 10th WAFCON title—competes with Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy for Women’s Player of the Year.GGoalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is shortlisted for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year following standout performances for both Paris FC and the Super Falcons. Bayelsa Queens forward Shakirat Moshood is among the finalists for Women’s Young Player of the Year after an impressive season that saw her shine in the WAFU B Champions League and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria also features in the Women’s Team of the Year shortlist, while Falcons coach Justine Madugu is expected to appear in the Coach of the Year category. This year’s awards will celebrate outstanding contributions to African football between January and October 2025.Headline news
