Police stop Lt. A.M Yerima in Abuja for driving with covered Number Plate (Video)

Naval officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima, who recently clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed plot of land in Abuja, was stopped by policemen in the capital for driving with a covered number plate.

A video circulating online shows officers questioning Yerima after intercepting his vehicle. The policemen complained that he refused to identify himself despite claiming to be a military officer, and alleged that he insulted them instead of cooperating.

The FCT Police Command later debunked social media reports suggesting that Yerima was attacked. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command explained that a patrol team on routine stop-and-search at NNPC Junction along Kubwa Expressway stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows. The driver refused to identify himself and wound up the windows.

According to the statement, three naval personnel arrived moments later and confirmed that the occupant was their colleague, taking photos and videos before leaving. After the identification, the police allowed the vehicle to go, and the patrol team continued its operation.

The Command described the online claims of an attack or assassination attempt as false and misleading.
