Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has sent a sharply worded message to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, despite thanking him for attending his 65th birthday celebration.
According to Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the message was sent via SMS on Monday and was released to journalists in Abeokuta.

In the message, Fayose thanked the former president for honouring his birthday invitation but strongly criticised remarks Obasanjo reportedly made during the event. He accused the former leader of making irresponsible comments and went on to issue several personal insults, claiming he had remained silent at the venue to avoid escalating the situation.
Fayose also asked Obasanjo to return money he said the ex-president acknowledged receiving publicly.
Obasanjo responded briefly, thanking Fayose for the message and saying it clearly reflected Fayose’s character. He added that the money mentioned had been returned through the same person who delivered it, in the same unopened bag.
Kehinde Akinyemi confirmed both messages in his statement.
