A new wave of concern has swept across Nigeria’s security landscape following confirmation that several soldiers were injured in yet another ambush while heading to rescue the abducted schoolgirls taken by terrorists in Kebbi State.
The video, now verified by military sources, shows wounded Nigerian troops receiving emergency treatment after insurgents targeted their convoy along a known threat corridor.

The attack occurred as reinforcement teams moved toward the forested zone where more than 25 schoolgirls are believed to be held. The ferocity and timing of the ambush have once again raised questions about the possibility of insider leaks—an issue that has haunted previous counter-insurgency operations and continues to undermine the nation’s ability to respond decisively.
Senior security experts and analysts who reviewed the incident described the ambush as “too precise to be coincidence.” According to them, the attackers appeared to have advance knowledge of troop movement, direction and estimated time of arrival. “When terrorists strike exactly where and when troops are moving, we are no longer dealing with random patterns—we are dealing with compromised intelligence,” one retired military officer noted.
This latest assault comes barely days after the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba in a separate ISWAP ambush in Damboa, raising nationwide alarm about the safety of troops and the integrity of Nigeria’s security architecture. The two incidents, occurring in close succession, have deepened public concern that saboteurs within the system may be providing insurgents with sensitive operational details.
Security analysts warn that unless Nigeria decisively confronts the issue of insider collusion, military operations will continue to be predictable, vulnerable and costly. “Terrorists should not be anticipating the military—ever. The moment they do, the battlefield is compromised,” a former intelligence officer said.

The Kebbi schoolgirl abduction has already sparked outrage across the country. Families remain in anguish as the abductors hold the girls deep within the forest. Each passing day complicates rescue efforts, increases risks and emboldens the perpetrators. The new ambush amplifies fears that rescue operations are not only dangerous but also being systematically sabotaged.
The Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement on the extent of the injuries or the updated status of the rescue mission. However, sources confirm that reinforcements and air surveillance units have been deployed to re-secure the route and support ongoing efforts to track the kidnappers’ movement.

Public pressure is mounting. Civil society groups, security reform advocates and community leaders are calling for immediate internal investigations into potential intelligence leaks. They argue that no nation can win a war against insurgency while battling betrayal from within its ranks. The National Patriots, who earlier demanded a probe into General Uba’s death, have reiterated that “insider compromise is now the most dangerous weapon in the terrorists’ arsenal.”

As the country watches with bated breath, the safety of the abducted girls and the welfare of the frontline troops hang in the balance. What is clear is that Nigeria cannot afford another fatal oversight. The sooner the nation identifies the saboteurs aiding these criminal networks, the sooner it can reclaim control of its security operations—and protect the lives of those risking everything to keep the country safe.
