Sixteen prospective NYSC members have died and two others were critically injured in a fatal accident while travelling to the Gombe orientation camp.
The victims, all graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, were part of the 2025 Batch C corps members posted to Gombe State. The accident occurred on Wednesday, November 19.

Reports from eyewitnesses and social media posts indicate that the 18-seater bus conveying the students was completely crushed, leaving only two survivors who are currently in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved or issued an official statement.

Friends and relatives of the victims have taken to social media to express grief and share tributes, describing the incident as heartbreaking and avoidable. One user wrote that the deaths reflect a growing pattern of tragic road accidents claiming promising young Nigerians.

This latest tragedy follows a similar incident months earlier, when two prospective corps members lost their lives on their way to another NYSC orientation camp after their 14-seater bus collided with a stationary truck in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
The recurring accidents have renewed public concerns about road safety, transportation standards, and the risks faced by corps members travelling long distances for orientation.
