Gombe Police Deny Reports of Attack on ECWA Church

The Gombe State Police Command has dismissed social media claims that the ECWA Church in Kashere, Akko Local Government Area, was attacked by gunmen.

In a statement on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi described the reports as “entirely false” and confirmed that no such incident took place.

The viral message circulating online suggested that parishioners had been kidnapped during an invasion of the church. However, the Divisional Police Officer for Pindiga and the Officer in Charge of the Kashere Police Outstation quickly contacted a church elder to verify the claims.

“The elder, who was present during the latter part of the Hausa service, confirmed that no attack occurred,” Abdullahi said. He added that police officers were stationed at the church throughout the day as part of routine security measures.

The police warned that spreading such false information is “irresponsible” and could incite panic among residents. Abdullahi further stated that the originators of the misinformation would be investigated, and appropriate action taken.

He urged the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and to rely only on verified sources of information. “The Gombe State Police Command remains fully committed to the safety and security of all residents,” Abdullahi emphasized.
