VIDEO: Doguwa Calls for Shutdown of House of Reps Until Tinubu Govt Tackles Insecurity

A dramatic moment unfolded in the House of Representatives on Tuesday as Alhassan Doguwa, representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, demanded the suspension of parliamentary proceedings over the worsening insecurity across the country.

Speaking during plenary, Doguwa sharply criticised the Bola Tinubu administration for what he described as an inadequate response to nationwide violence, abductions, and attacks affecting communities.

In a video shared by TV Platinum on Facebook, the lawmaker lamented the severe impact of insecurity on everyday life, saying, “The country is running in blood and tears. You cannot move freely. Farmers cannot go to their farms; traders cannot go to the market.”
He added that worshippers could no longer attend mosques and churches safely, questioning the relevance of legislative work under such conditions.

Doguwa urged the Speaker and fellow lawmakers to take a decisive stand, saying the House must act if the government fails to protect citizens. “If the government is not ready to do what is right to safeguard lives and property, I urge this House to stand up and pay the supreme cost,” he declared.

He then proposed a bold measure: suspending all legislative activities until the federal government takes meaningful action. “Shut this House down. Declare a legislative emergency and wait until the right steps are taken by the government of the day,” he insisted, arguing that such a move would signal the seriousness of the crisis.

The lawmaker reminded his colleagues that security responsibilities lie primarily with the federal government but also involve state authorities. He warned that the deteriorating situation could threaten future elections and stressed the need for lawmakers to reassess their oversight obligations.

Doguwa also highlighted increasing cases of kidnapping in his constituency, especially around the Falgore Game Reserve, noting that residents now live in constant fear.

He concluded by urging collaboration among lawmakers, regardless of political or regional differences, to address the growing insecurity threatening all parts of Nigeria.
