The US House Appropriations Committee will on Tuesday lead a joint congressional briefing on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, officials have announced.ADS 5

According to Congressman Riley Moore, the session will be convened by Committee Vice Chair and National Security Subcommittee Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart, with members of the Foreign Affairs and Financial Services Committees also participating. Representatives from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom and other experts are expected to give testimony.

The briefing aims to highlight rising violence against Christians in Nigeria and gather evidence for a report requested by former President Donald Trump on attacks targeting Christian communities and possible congressional actions to support US efforts to protect vulnerable groups globally.

Officials said the roundtable will give lawmakers updated insights into the conditions facing religious minorities.

The development comes as US–Nigeria security cooperation deepens. President Bola Tinubu recently approved Nigeria’s delegation to a new US–Nigeria Joint Working Group created to advance security commitments made during high-level talks in Washington. The group will focus on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, border security, and humanitarian concerns.

The initiative follows increasing US concern over terrorism, banditry and targeted attacks on Christians in Nigeria.Headline news
