17 Killed, Several Missing as Militias Attack Returning IDPs in Taraba
At least 17 people have been killed and eight others injured after suspected militia groups launched a violent attack on returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Tse Ajogo village, Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State. The assault occurred around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Reports indicate that the gunmen carried out a coordinated operation, firing indiscriminately at residents and vulnerable IDPs who had only recently begun resettling after months of displacement. In addition to the fatalities, several villagers remain missing, and seven homes were destroyed in the attack.

Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident on Thursday, describing it as the second attack on returning IDPs in Tse Ajogo within two months. He noted that the assailants appeared well-armed and strategic, aiming to inflict maximum casualties and disrupt ongoing resettlement efforts.

Tse Ajogo, located about four kilometres from Rafin Kada town, has long been considered a high-risk area due to repeated militia incursions. Security operatives have begun efforts to track down those responsible, and authorities have urged heightened vigilance across affected communities.

Troops have been instructed to step up patrols along major routes to prevent further attacks. Local leaders also advised residents, particularly members of the Tiv community, to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to security agencies promptly.
