SIX ARRESTED FOR ARMS DEALING, KIDNAPPING IN NIGER STATE.

Niger State Police Arrest Six Suspects in Series of Crimes Including Arms Trafficking, Kidnapping, and Phone Snatching

The Niger State Police Command has announced the arrest of six individuals suspected of involvement in a range of criminal activities, including arms dealing, kidnapping, unlawful possession of ammunition, and phone snatching.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests were made following multiple coordinated operations across the state.

Abiodun revealed that on November 4, 2025, police acting on credible intelligence apprehended Zuwaira Usman, who allegedly specialised in transporting ammunition for criminals. During interrogation, Zuwaira admitted meeting one Lawali in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State, in September 2025, exchanging contacts, and later being tasked with delivering a package to Warri, Delta State.

“She received N20,000 for transportation and, upon reaching Abuja, Lawali contacted the driver with instructions for her drop-off in Warri,” Abiodun explained. “Upon arrival, a man identified as Ahmed handed her a sack containing a flask with items to deliver to Lawali and provided an additional N30,000 for her return trip.”

Investigations revealed that the flask contained 2,500 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. Ahmed was later arrested in Delta State, while efforts to apprehend Lawali continue.

In a separate operation on November 27, police arrested Aminu Ahmed for allegedly kidnapping three children in Kontagora and extorting more than N2 million in ransom. The suspect reportedly abducted a three-year-old child for N1.4 million and later kidnapped a four-year-old and another three-year-old, collecting a combined ransom of N850,000. Abiodun noted that Aminu also claimed to have lost over N1.8 million in a failed mining investment scam and is currently under further investigation.

Another arrest was made on November 30, when Mohammed Mahmud of Zuba was caught in possession of a locally fabricated pistol with one cartridge during a routine stop-and-search operation.

On December 10, Operation Flush officers attached to Chanchaga Division apprehended Hassan Abdullahi, 19, and Khalifa Bashir, 21, at Old City Gate. The suspects, found in a tricycle, were in possession of three stolen Android phones, which they admitted to snatching from passengers.

Abiodun further reported that on December 12, police recovered two improvised guns wrapped in black tape near Zuma Rock, following a tip about suspected armed robbers in the area. On the same day, Adamu Usman and Umar Mohammed Bello were arrested in Kagarko for a robbery incident dating back to November 1. The suspects confessed to their involvement and provided information on other gang members still at large.

Additionally, on December 11, Zakariyau Mohammed of Jubilee, Suleja, was arrested for conspiracy and theft of household items, including a generator and laptop, allegedly stolen alongside an accomplice, Aminu Na’wushe, who remains at large.

“All suspects are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations, while operations to apprehend remaining suspects continue,” Abiodun concluded.
