Senator Sunday Katung, who represents Kaduna South Senatorial District, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was formally announced on Wednesday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read a letter submitted by the senator notifying the chamber of his decision.
In the letter, Katung confirmed that his resignation from the PDP took effect on October 31, 2025, noting that the move followed careful thought and was not taken lightly.

He explained that although he had remained committed to the democratic values the PDP once represented, changing political realities at both national and constituency levels prompted him to reassess his political alignment.
According to the senator, the APC’s current leadership and direction offer renewed hope, inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development, making it a more suitable platform for advancing the welfare of his constituents.

Katung stressed that the decision was driven by his desire to serve his people more effectively and contribute meaningfully to national development, adding that political ambition and destiny also informed his move.
