SUPER EAGLES ARRIVE IN MOROCCO + IBEABUCHI, KABIRU SET TO FIGHT FOR WBB TITLE IN LAGOS

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have touched down in Fès, Morocco, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team arrived on Thursday night after wrapping up a preparatory camp in Cairo, Egypt, where they also played a friendly match against Egypt as part of their final build-up. The squad, led by head coach Éric Chelle, has now shifted focus fully to preparations in the host nation as they fine-tune plans for the tournament.

The three-time African champions, drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda, will begin their campaign against Tanzania on December 23 before facing Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30. Key players, including midfielder Wilfred Ndidi—reportedly newly named captain—are expected to lead the charge as Nigeria seeks to add a fourth AFCON crown to its history.

In boxing news, Nigerian heavyweight veteran Ike Ibeabuchi is set to headline a major fight in Lagos on December 24, when he takes on Kabiru Towolawi for the World Boxing Bureau (WBB) Heavyweight Championship.

The bout, scheduled for Teslim Balogun Stadium, will be contested over 12 rounds and is part of a packed fight card promoted by Prizefighting.tv.

A victory for Ibeabuchi would not only secure the WBB title but also put him on course to break George Foreman’s record as the oldest man to win a recognised heavyweight belt, as well as potentially position him for future world-level opportunities if he continues his comeback. Ibeabuchi, unbeaten in his professional career and regarded as one of Africa’s most feared heavyweights before his long hiatus, returned to the ring in 2025 with a win in Lagos and now aims to build on that success with a triumphant return in December.
