NPA: POLICE DEPLOY HEIGHTENED SECURITY AT LAGOS PORTS for THE YULETIDE SEASON.

Nigerian Ports Authority Police Boost Security Across Lagos Ports for Yuletide Season.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Police, Western Command, has launched intensified security operations across major port corridors in Lagos State to ensure safe and uninterrupted maritime activities during the festive season.

Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, confirmed the move in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin. According to the statement, the Command has increased 24/7 patrols on land and water to deter criminal activity and safeguard vessels, cargo, port facilities, and other critical maritime infrastructure.

Agbaminoja emphasized that the measures are aimed at protecting port users, maritime stakeholders, and national economic assets, particularly as port activity rises during the holiday period. The security operations span Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri and Ikorodu Lighter Terminals, as well as marine patrol routes extending up to 12 nautical miles.

The commissioner explained that the strategy is designed to ensure smooth port operations amid the surge in human and vehicular traffic typically experienced during the Yuletide season. She further revealed that the Command has strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, and Port Facility Security Officers to enable quick, coordinated responses to any security threats.

Additional security personnel have been deployed to high-risk and congestion-prone areas, while intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts have been intensified to proactively detect and address potential threats to port safety and national economic interests.

Agbaminoja also called on all port users to remain vigilant, comply with security protocols, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest Port Police Division or Marine Unit.

“The Command reassures port users, maritime stakeholders, and the public of its commitment to maintaining safety, security, and order across all port corridors during the Yuletide season. We remain dedicated to ensuring that operations within the nation’s maritime domain continue seamlessly and securely during the holidays and beyond,” she stated.
