Kuwait Signs $4.1bn Deal With China to Finish Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.
Kuwait has reached a multibillion-dollar agreement with China to complete construction of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, a flagship infrastructure project aimed at boosting the country’s role in global commerce and reducing its reliance on oil revenues.
The State Audit Bureau, Kuwait’s public spending watchdog, confirmed on Monday that the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract is valued at 1.28 billion Kuwaiti dinars, equivalent to about $4.16 billion.

The contract signing ceremony was held on Boubyan Island, where the port is being built, and was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. According to state media, the prime minister said the project would strengthen Kuwait’s position in regional and international trade, while enhancing its integration into global supply chains.

China’s acting chargé d’affaires in Kuwait, Liu Xiang, described the agreement as part of Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative, underlining China’s growing involvement in major infrastructure projects across the Middle East.
Once completed, Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port is expected to serve as a major logistics and transit hub, supporting Kuwait’s long-term economic diversification strategy.
