Sokoto Governor Launches New Measures to Combat Banditry

Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has unveiled fresh initiatives aimed at intensifying the fight against banditry, declaring his administration’s commitment to ending the menace once and for all.

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday while opening the 17th regular State Executive Council meeting, which marked the last council session of 2025.

Banditry has long plagued rural communities in Sokoto, causing violent attacks, mass displacement, livestock theft, kidnappings for ransom, and disruptions to socio-economic activities.

Governor Aliyu said the new measures, which build on ongoing security strategies, will strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance coordination with security agencies. He noted that previous efforts had already yielded positive results.

“Since taking office, we have consistently supported security agencies with logistics and essential resources to boost their operations across the 13 local government areas affected by banditry,” he said.

The governor emphasized the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to provide timely and useful information to security agencies. “Intelligence is key to checkmating criminal elements, and these initiatives will further enhance our capacity to tackle banditry decisively,” he added.

Aliyu also commended the State Executive Council for their dedication and thanked the people of Sokoto for their prayers and cooperation, promising continued dividends of democracy.

During the meeting, the governor congratulated the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and Senior Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters, Bande Rika, urging them to support the implementation of his administration’s nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda.
