Residents and business owners were thrown into confusion on Wednesday evening, December 24, 2025, after a major fire outbreak engulfed the 22-storey Great Nigeria House located in the Oluwole area of Lagos Island.
Footage circulating widely on social media captured heavy plumes of dark smoke rising into the sky as flames tore through several levels of the high-rise building, heightening concerns over safety in the busy commercial district.

Although the exact cause of the inferno has not yet been established, emergency responders were seen battling the blaze in an effort to contain the damage and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Great Nigeria House, which ranks among the tallest buildings in the country, is owned by Great Nigeria Insurance Company Limited and also houses offices of Mainstreet Bank.
