PDP BLASTS TINUBU: FG OUGHT TO HAVE INFORMED NIGERIANS FIRST OF THE US AIRSTRIKE RATHER THAN TRUMP.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the Federal Government over its handling of information following the United States military airstrikes against terrorist targets in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party said Nigerians first learned of the operation through statements by American officials, while the Nigerian government issued what it described as a vague and delayed response.

The PDP said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement failed to clearly explain what happened, leaving citizens dependent on social media and foreign sources for information about a major security operation carried out on Nigerian soil.

While welcoming international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the party insisted that the Federal Government should have taken the lead in announcing the operation to properly inform the public and assert national authority.

The PDP warned that allowing foreign governments to break security news concerning Nigeria undermines public confidence and raises concerns about sovereignty and control over the country’s security architecture.

The party further urged the government to ensure that any defence agreement with the United States prioritises joint operations that promote intelligence sharing and capacity building, rather than externally led military actions.

It added that effective communication and transparency are essential to sustaining public trust and strengthening Nigeria’s long-term fight against insecurity.
