KWARA EXPLOSION: FIVE INJURED, BUILDINGS DAMAGED AS PROBE BEGINS

An explosion on Thursday night damaged four buildings in Offa, Kwara State, leaving about five people injured, including a couple and their young daughter.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. along the Offa–Ijagbo Road.

A landlady, Victoria Macharty, said she heard an unusual humming sound before an object fell on her building.

“I don’t know exactly what happened. Something landed on the ground,” she said, adding that security officials later recovered a small box, metal-like rims and iron fragments from the scene.

She said her fence, house and two windows were damaged.

Another eyewitness said an artisan was also affected, while four adjoining buildings suffered significant damage.

The Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Olatunji Sulaiman, said the incident was not a bomb explosion, noting that military personnel were investigating to determine the exact nature of the object involved.

“We cannot yet say exactly what happened because investigations are ongoing. Only a few homes were affected, and the situation is calm,” he said.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that the debris had been evacuated by IED experts, describing the incident as involving an ordinance.
