The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has extended an open invitation to Governor Abba Yusuf to defect to the ruling party, assuring him of a warm reception.
This was made known on Tuesday in Kano by the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who spoke on behalf of the immediate past national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
According to Abbas, discussions surrounding Governor Yusuf’s possible move to the APC have triggered internal disagreements within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the platform on which the governor won the election.
The NNPP’s national leader and political mentor to the governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly opposed to Yusuf’s defection to the APC.
Abbas explained that the invitation was driven by the need for unity, reconciliation, and the overall development of Kano State, describing the move as one that prioritizes the collective interest of the people.
He added that the APC is committed to fostering a more cohesive and prosperous Kano and is prepared to welcome Governor Yusuf and other NNPP stakeholders into the party.
“The APC is open and ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf so we can work together for the advancement of Kano State,” Abbas said.
He further stated that upon formally joining the APC, Governor Yusuf and his supporters would be received under the leadership of Dr. Ganduje in a spirit of mutual respect and shared responsibility.
