SIX DEAD, FOUR RESCUED IN LAGOS BOAT COLLISION ON CHANNEL LAGOS

A passenger boat operated by Savvy Marine capsized on Tuesday evening, December 30, along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun water channel, resulting in six fatalities and leaving four people hospitalised, according to authorities.

The accident happened at about 8:35 p.m. as the vessel was en route from Ilashe Beach House.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, officials said they received a distress alert and immediately deployed search and rescue teams, working alongside the Marine Police and other emergency responders.

As of the latest update, four passengers were rescued alive and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Six others were unfortunately recovered dead at the scene, while search operations are still ongoing to determine if there are additional victims.

Preliminary findings suggest the boat collided with a submerged object, although investigations are continuing. Authorities said a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted and findings made public.

They also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and reiterated the importance of adhering to safety regulations, including the “NO NIGHT TRAVEL” rule.
