Coastal Highway Project Already Yielding Economic Dividends In Lagos – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said the Coastal Highway Project, initiated by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, is already delivering economic benefits to the state.

The governor made this known at the 2026 annual thanksgiving service organised by the Lagos State Government at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies.”

Speaking at the 26th edition of the service, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of the coastal highway to both Lagos State and the country, noting that the project recorded major progress in 2025. He said a critical section of the highway was opened to commuters during the Christmas period, easing movement and boosting economic activities.

According to him, the project is already providing tangible benefits to the state’s economy and surrounding communities. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for conceptualising and initiating the project, securing the necessary investment financing, and approving its partial opening in December, which brought relief to residents.

The governor stated that while the state continues to seek divine guidance and protection, his administration recognises its responsibility to strengthen safety standards and enhance emergency response systems across Lagos.

Reflecting on the past year, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos experienced both successes and challenges in 2025, but remained grateful in all circumstances. He noted that the experiences of the year reinforced the need for gratitude and resilience.

Looking ahead, the governor described 2026 as a year of special significance for Lagos State, stressing his determination to ensure it delivers meaningful and lasting benefits to residents. He said several projects scheduled for commissioning this year hold personal importance to him.

Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that more transformational projects would be delivered across key sectors in 2026, including transportation, agriculture, health, energy, the environment and infrastructure. He said his administration is committed to completing and inaugurating ongoing projects across the five IBILE divisions of the state, with a focus on inclusive and people-centred development.

He added that despite economic and social challenges, Lagos has continued to make steady progress through strategic planning, the resilience of its residents and sustained governance efforts. The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with the state’s development agenda and the federal government’s Renewed Hope vision, emphasising that strong collaboration between federal and state governments remains essential to ensuring that democratic dividends reach citizens at the grassroots.
