2026 MUSLIM SCHOLARSHIP FUND NIGERIA FOR UNDERGRADUATES: STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

The Muslim Scholarship Fund Nigeria (MSFN) has continued its efforts to ease the financial challenges faced by Nigerian students through its yearly scholarship programme for undergraduates and senior secondary school students.

Under the scheme, academically outstanding but financially disadvantaged students receive financial support of ₦120,000 for undergraduates and ₦40,000 for senior secondary school beneficiaries.

This post provides details about the scholarship programme, eligibility requirements, benefits, and a simple guide on how qualified candidates can apply.

About the Muslim Scholarship Fund Nigeria (MSFN)

The Muslim Scholarship Fund Nigeria was founded in 1999 under its former name, the Muslim Education Trust Fund. It was created in response to the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria, which were negatively affecting the educational progress and moral development of Muslim youths across the country.

Nigeria’s economic challenges have made quality education unaffordable for many families. As a result, some Muslim youths have been drawn into other religious groups in search of educational opportunities, employment, and improved living standards.

While the Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme addresses financial challenges at the primary and junior secondary levels, there remains a significant gap at the senior secondary and tertiary levels. The MSFN scholarship was therefore designed to support students at these stages of education.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be Nigerian Muslims

  • Be enrolled in, or have secured admission to, a senior secondary school or tertiary institution

  • Demonstrate active involvement in volunteer services that benefit the Muslim community, such as coaching younger students, assisting the elderly, or participating in Muslim Students’ Society (MSS) activities. These efforts must be confirmed by a recognised Muslim leader in the applicant’s school or community

  • Have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale for undergraduates, or at least credit passes in English Language and Mathematics for secondary school students

The scholarship is currently open to students from the following states: Kwara, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Edo, and Ekiti. However, the organisers plan to expand the programme nationwide once it becomes fully operational.

Scholarship Benefits

  • ₦120,000 annually for undergraduate students in tertiary institutions

  • ₦40,000 annually for senior secondary school students

These amounts may be adjusted from time to time in line with Nigeria’s economic realities.
