AFCON 2025: TINUBU, ADEBAJO-FRASER HAIL SUPER EAGLES’ MARCH ON AS PATRIOTS URGED TO FINISH THE JOB

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s praise for the Super Eagles after their quarter-final victory has been echoed by Princess Gloria Adebajo‑Fraser, President of the National Patriots Movement, who described the team’s performance as “a statement of discipline, belief and national purpose.”

Nigeria’s 2–0 win over Algeria at the Grand Stade de Marrakech was more than a tactical success. Against a side that had conceded just once in the tournament, the Super Eagles imposed themselves with authority, intensity and control, underlining their credentials as serious contenders for the title.

In a statement released on Sunday, Princess Adebajo-Fraser said the team had reminded Nigerians what focused patriotism looks like on the continental stage.

“The Super Eagles have played not just with skill, but with character,” she said. “They must now keep their eyes on the ball, shut out distractions, and remember that they carry the hopes of a proud nation. True patriots finish what they start.”

The intervention carries symbolic weight. Princess Adebajo-Fraser is widely recognised as the first woman in the world to preside over a major male professional football club – the Stationery Stores FC of Lagos, a milestone that once drew international attention during an interview with the BBC’s Hilary Anderson. Her message, therefore, blends civic leadership with lived experience of elite football administration.

President Tinubu had earlier taken to social media to salute the team’s display, urging them on as Nigeria prepares for a high-stakes semi-final against tournament hosts Morocco. Senior players, including Victor Osimhen, have also struck a note of caution, thanking supporters while stressing the need to build momentum carefully.

For the National Patriots Movement, the moment is clear: Nigeria has the talent, confidence and backing to go all the way. What remains, Princess Adebajo-Fraser insists, is focus.
“This is the stage where legends are made,” she said. “Play with honour, unity and calm, and bring the trophy home for Nigeria.”

As the semi-final looms, the Super Eagles carry not just form, but expectation — and a country urging them to complete the journey.
