Speaking on Monday at the National Symposium/Lecture Series marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Abuja, Musa highlighted that ongoing policy and legislative reforms are revitalizing the country’s local defence industry. He noted that these measures are promoting private sector involvement, creating employment opportunities, increasing local content, and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

The minister explained that Nigeria is leveraging the expertise of skilled professionals, both within the country and from the diaspora, to enhance innovation and capacity building in the defence sector. He added that homegrown defence platforms now demonstrate the growing capability of Nigeria’s defence industrial base and its contribution to regional stability and economic growth.

Musa also pointed to improvements in the training of Special Forces and strengthened collaboration with regional and international partners, which have boosted intelligence sharing and operational efficiency in combating transnational threats.

He further highlighted that ongoing military operations across various regions have yielded significant successes, while enhanced naval operations and better maritime surveillance have helped curb criminal activity and protect vital national assets.

The minister stressed that security is a collective responsibility, urging communities, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local governments to support efforts in dismantling criminal networks. He encouraged participants at the symposium to develop actionable recommendations aimed at further fortifying Nigeria’s defence architecture and promoting national unity.

Musa commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and all personnel of the Armed Forces for their dedication and resilience, assuring Nigerians of the military’s readiness and capability to confront threats to the nation.

“Nigeria is a great nation. Together and steadfast, we will overcome our challenges and secure a prosperous future,” he affirmed.

He also paid tribute to fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country, and praised the courage and professionalism of serving personnel. The minister acknowledged the sacrifices of families of deceased officers, particularly widows, recognizing their patriotism and resilience as integral to Nigeria’s national consciousness.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa, described the symposium as a reminder that a nation’s strength lies not only in military hardware but also in shared values, collective memory, and dedication to service. He stressed that the resilience of any defence system depends on leadership quality, clear vision, and unity of purpose.

“As we participate in this symposium, we renew our commitment to Nigeria and the global community to maintain peace, stability, and the highest levels of professionalism,” Pheelangwa said.
