The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa State Command, has seized 1,944.389kg of illicit drugs, valued at N2.8 billion, while securing convictions for 136 drug peddlers in 2025.
The announcement was made by State Commander Hassan Kabaju during a briefing on the Command’s 2025 activities at its Dutse headquarters.

DETAILS OF THE SEIZURE
Kabaju disclosed that the seized drugs included:
-
441.973kg of cannabis sativa
-
1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances
-
128.520kg of other drugs of abuse
In total, 577 individuals were arrested during the year, comprising 558 males and 19 females, with 136 convicted for drug-related offences.
“The seized drugs are worth approximately N2.8 billion, based on current market prices,” Kabaju said, noting the agency’s commitment to limiting the supply and abuse of hard drugs and psychoactive substances.
REHABILITATION AND AWARENESS EFFORTS
The NDLEA also engaged in drug demand reduction, counselling 552 drug users, and referring 59 male drug-dependent individuals for treatment and rehabilitation at its facility.
Under the War Against Drug Abuse campaign, the Command delivered 39,383 drug-prevention lectures and advocacy talks across schools, including tertiary institutions.

CHALLENGES AND COMMITMENT
Kabaju acknowledged challenges such as insufficient vehicles, administrative, and operational equipment, but emphasised the agency’s determination to reach all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State.
“The NDLEA will continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State,” he said, praising personnel for their dedication:
“We pray that Jigawa State Command will make this Agency proud.”
He also thanked the public for their support and called for continued collaboration to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the state.
NDLEA’S STRIDES
Since Col. Muhammad Mustapha Marwa was appointed Chairman in January 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, and reappointed by President Bola Tinubu, the NDLEA has intensified its efforts to apprehend drug pushers and combat substance abuse nationwide.
